I’ve been getting a glimpse of color trends for 2008. It’s said that green will be the next neutral. I find that interesting but then it shouldn’t be such a surprise as we are becoming more environmentally aware all the time. And by utilizing colors in the green family we are reflecting this eco-consciousness shift in attitude.
Another trend is towards classy black and white palates combined with all their variations in-between. We will also be using more metallic colors and glossy finishes. What fun that will be and by simply tossing in an accent color like a flashy red or even a subtle pink the looks created will be pure elegance.
There is also a trend towards crewel colors or tapestry-like colors. I love this type of palate. It is reflective of a real warm homey feel and the colors have real life to them. I see it as not being too different from how we’ve been going with our color choices this past year. I think people have become more daring in their color choices and they’ve been expressing their personalities more with their choices of color in their decorating palates.

Yes Barbara, I do agree with you on your ideas about this coming year on what colors are hot. I am an Interior
Decorator in the greater Philadelphia area, and I must say
your DVD’s are fantastic!!! You give the novice painter SO
much information!! I would definately recomend your DVD’s!
I just want ed to tell you that………….now getting back to the color forcast. I’m seeing a lot of “pink”. Actually, I love
pink and red, so if people are afraid of red, they can always
use the color pink instead. And come on Ladies, everyone knows that pink is a great shade for our complextions, we
look good in a soft pink glow! Several new shades of pink are on the horizon. The pink that I like is the hot and sassy
saturated pink that goes well with the acid greens, blues and the browns. It’s a great color to use when you want
that “OH Wow” effect!. Especially in children’s rooms.
Well, it was a lot of fun adding to your blog.
Sincerely,

I agree with Michele! I am seeing tons of pinks in my neck of the woods too!
I am glad to hear that green is “the new neutral” in the new trends. I just love ‘em! And it seems that everyone else does. Besides, there is a bit of nearly everything in the green family!
How about trends in faux finishing techniques? Anything new and interesting that we haven’t already seen?
Can’t wait to see what comes next in your blog!

Thank you Michele, for the compliments. It’s so great to get feed back from people on my products.
As for my ideas on color, they really aren’t mine I’ve just been fishing around and I thought it would be nice to pass on what I’ve been hearing and seeing in the industry.
And I do agree with you on pink, it’s certainly becoming common place in fashion and that usually doesn’t stray too far from interior design. I don’t anticipate using that color too much with faux painting though, except for young girls rooms. Does anyone know of any girl that hasn’t gone through the pink phase with the walls in their bedroom?

Hey Barbara:
Love your new web-log. I think this will be a great site for everyone; general public, designers and contractors to get an idea of what is new and how trends are going. Even better a great place for us to discuss the changes.
Your color ideas are right on. The green is in fact in and will continue to be a basic for some time to come. I have noticed a lot of pink and into reds combined with the green showing up in the design centers. This will make for some brighter more cheerful designs next year.

Hey Barbara,
I am in interior stylist from Australia and just done a four bedroom house recently. I stuck with the colors of black and white and all hues in between. For flooring I went with charcoal gray tiles and carpets. For the bathroom I went for white and black glossy tiles and stainless steel… For the masters bedroom feauture wall I went for metallic gray sponging silver metallics making it look like a big tile close to the one chosen for the whole house. Suprisingly, I went for a metallic silver for the girls bedroom spraying it making it look like one big sheet of stainless steel while the opposite wall had bought some 3d wall panels ..Of course, their accessories where HOT PINK ( but not the wall )….I played with a set of stripes in silver, white , black and hot pink on top of the door with an L shape Indeed I believe the trend is towards gloss, metals, smooth almost silk and metal like walls. Having black, white and grays is what I recommended as I feel that electric colors are eay to blend with them… I guess being inspired by Karim Rashid’s vision of the future interior, our homes will in 20 years time look like space furnitures of the JETSONS. So I guess, GLOSS, mirrors, metals and less of the flat look is what we should be looking at. .. For painting, I have done the really really thin stripes ( not the whole room, just at one part of the room as an accent )in silver, black, white, one electric color matching their accent color and gold.
So … do you think that the subtle “antique look” faux on hand-textured walls (looking like old-world plaster) will still be ok for ‘08 (using brown tones)? And what about the dark red leather look (faux, faux)?
Thank you.
