Wall texture has become real popular over the past few years and I’ve had fun working a lot of these new products. However, I really dislike having to choose a company color, find a distributor and order the material or drive for an hour to pick up the product; its all such a hassle. I prefer to work with more easily attainable materials.
On my most recent job where I wanted to create unique wall textures, I simply chose to use drywall mudd. It’s so much easier to deal with and its really an inexpensive material so you can totally overbuy and not worry about using it before it’s shelf life gives out. Another great advantage of working with mud is that its an easy product to sand, manipulate and paint.
You are however, required to use your creativity a little more than you would when using some of the crushed stone texture products that are available. But having to be more creative is where the fun is at anyway. I was inspired by waterfall glass for this one texture. The result was beautiful and unique. This particular example is highlighted with pearlescent white paint and glitter.
