Faux painting market

February 6, 2008

It’s interesting the different opinions I found when I was reading the January issue of Paint and Decorating Retailer magazine. It is a great issue and me and my company were included throughout the articles and the question was all around the faux painting market.

One person made the point that the business has expanded beyond walls and into furniture and floors and other various surfaces. Another point was made about the housing market and that people will turn to improving their investment in their homes by adding faux painting. But I had to differ with someone who said that people will always be searching for new and innovative ways to decorate their homes and that simple finishes as sponge painting are out of the question.

I say, Yes people are looking for innovative ways to decorate their home but I still get requests for sponge painting and I still do rag painting and I still do color washing and I still do glazing; all of these finishes still have a place within the decorative painting. They are relatively quick and inexpensive compared to some of the more elaborate, labor intensive and expensive finishes. There will always be room and need for all of these faux painting techniques.
