Painting over a flat wall finish
I just read some advice from a professional and she claimed you can never do a faux finish over flat paint. I thought that was crazy because I do it all the time.
Sure, more often than not you will want to paint over a sealed surface as with a semi-gloss or satin paint because you need to mottle the glaze mixture as you apply it to the wall. But if you’re doing an additive paint finish then it’s not necessary to have a flat finish.
I even teach a way that you can do a color wash over flat wall paint on my color washing and glazing dvd. I teach how to paint over a flat finish in the rag painting ,sponge painting and all of the stone-like finishes on the Rocks, Blocks & Bricks dvd are done over a flat finish.
I think it’s important that people have choices when they are deciding what look will work best for the area they want to faux finish. That is why I gave so many options and examples in my dvds’. Actually their are examples of painting faux finishes over flat wall paint in demonstrations on all of my dvd’s except for the Weave, Drag & Comb dvd.
