Sometimes a super subtle finish is what you’re looking for and it’s so much more interesting that flat paint. Sometimes what I do is simply use the same color but I mix the paint sheens through layers.
In other words I would start with a flat solid color and then I would paint a layer with a faux technique like “ragging on” using the same color but with a satin, or semi gloss sheen. The texture reflections from the different sheens really add the solid color look.
Just remember that when you’re painting in layers of the same color to follow the same rules as with layering different colors like I’ve demonstrated in my Faux Fun videos.
