If you mix Bob Vila, Carol Burnett, Wonder Woman, and add a wee bit of Marilyn Monroe… then you got a pretty good idea who the Handy Goddess is. And just like the Goddess herself, her Show too, is a happy hybrid Blend. One part sitcom , one part “how-to” home improvement show, one part reality Show.
The Handy Goddess addresses everything from major construction and demolition projects for home and yard to decorative painting, crafting Mardi Gras masques, erecting huge Bunny Sculptures for your Garden (and who doesn’t need one?), painting Murals on Walls, and sooooo much more. Seems there’s no Project off limits for this Diva of Demolition and Design.
But don’t expect your typical PBS “This Old House” kinda show. Yes, she gets the job done. Yes, you too can tackle the same after watching one of her Shows. Yes, she gives you step-by-step Instructions, walks you through it. But that’s where the similarity ends. The Handy Goddess serves it all up with a plethora of Marilyn “oooohs” and “aaaaahs” and spins and giggles and saucy double entendres. All delivered with innocence, camp, humor, and a twinkle in her eye.
You’ll find yourself thinking, “Did she just say that?!” And before you have your answer, the Goddess has moved on to the next important step in the Project… leaving you chuckling at her naughty bits, as you make a mental note of what you need to saw or lift or spackle next. She delights and teases her male audience, and empowers her women viewers.
“I am Woman Hear Me Roar”, but also hear me Flirt (and moan, just a little). All while adorned in a Pink Construction Hat, wielding Pink Tools, dressed in her ”excuse me, but my eyes are up here” form-fitting Pink Tee, and sexy-ass Blue Jeans. And when she welcomes a guest Artist, hunky Assistant or guest Crafty Person… Hilarity and Naughty Banter seem to increase exponentially! And yet, the job STILL gets done.
All in all… the Goddess satisfies her Audience… and seemingly, um… herself too.
A testament to her uniqueness was shown on late night’s best and most entertaining show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, where her pitch was featured among the “Pitch America” segment taken from the NAPTE trade show in Las Vegas. (Link to the clip on her primary website)
